NHS Confederation: Our work

As the independent membership body for the full range of organisations that make up today's NHS, the Confederation meets both the distinct needs of parts of the NHS and their collective needs:

We provide a collective voice and services for all types of NHS organisations.
NHS Employers represents trusts in England on workforce issues.
Our networks focus on meeting the specific needs of foundation trusts, PCTs, ambulance trusts, independent providers and mental health trusts.

We aim to be the authoritative voice in the policy debate on all NHS issues. To do this in 2008/09 we will:

Work to ensure health minister Professor Lord Darzi's NHS Next Stage Review delivers real and sustainable benefits for patients, the public and NHS staff
Create a debate on major future issues through a series of debate papers in the run up to and during our annual conference in June 2008
Produce a campaign moving towards the next general election to influence the development of health policy.
Continue our work with the range of national organisations involved in the quality, safety and complaints agenda to shape their work and ensure members have a voice.
Continue our work with members to influence the Government’s health inequalities strategy.
Deliver a programme of work to improve the reputation of NHS management.
Introduce a system for supporting our members in their relationships with MPs and to increase the effectiveness of our campaigns.

Our priorities for 2008/09
Our top priority for the immediate period is influencing health minister Professor Lord Darzi's wide-ranging review of the NHS (the NHS Next Stage Review), and its implementation.

Our achievements in 2007/08
Over the last year (2007/08), the NHS Confederation has been working on behalf of the whole NHS to bring the management perspective into the public debate, set the policy agenda, influence the development of government policy and promote excellence in the interests of the public, patients and staff.
