Ambulance trusts

The NHS Confederation is the independent membership body for the full range of organisations that make up today’s NHS.

The Ambulance Service Network was established as part of the NHS Confederation to give a strong, independent voice for NHS and public ambulance services in the UK and to ensure the ambulance service works more closely with other parts of the health service.

We have an independent board elected by our members, comprised of five chief executives, five chairs of ambulance services and the network director. The board is chaired by John Burnside, chief executive of the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust. Our vice chair is Heather Strawbridge, chair of the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Liz Kendall is the director of the Ambulance Service Network. She oversees a dedicated team of staff and steers the work programme on behalf of our members.

Our vision
Ambulance services have changed significantly in the past decade, with big improvements in response times for 999 calls, in training and quality of care, vehicle standards, equipment and technology. Demand for ambulances is also continuing to rise by an extra 250,000 responses a year.

About the Ambulance Service Network

Following the merger of the ASA with the NHS Confederation, the ASN now sits alongside other key networks within the NHS Confederation including the PCT, FT, Mental Health and NHS Partners Network.
