Date: 12/11/2012
Stock Code: INF32301
Format: Electronic

This review summarises the work and achievements of the Ambulance Service Network in 2011/12 and outlines the network's priorities for 2012/13.

During 2011/12, the ASN's programme of work reflected both the impact of the NHS reforms and the implementation issues arising for members. Many of these issues have also been taken forward for 2012/13. Key work areas for 2011/12 included:

  • influencing the impact of the NHS reforms on NHS ambulance trusts
  • the commissioning of ambulance services in the
    reformed NHS
  • influencing the development of a single point of access and, in particular, the role of ambulance trusts in the delivery of NHS 111
  • the development of outcomes frameworks and the move from targets to outcome measures for ambulance trusts
  • the movement of ambulance trusts in England towards foundation status
  • innovation and spreading of good practice initiatives developed by ambulance trusts to the wider NHS
  • bringing the system together and positioning ambulance trusts as drivers of the new urgent, unscheduled and emergency care system.
