PCT Network statement regarding the outcome of phase 2 swine flu

08/12/2009
PCT Network director David Stout comments on the outcome of discussions between NHS Employers and the General Practitioners Committee (GPC) of the British Medical Association to provide swine flu vaccinations for children aged six months to five years.

“We are disappointed that negotiations have not brought about a national agreement. PCTs will be communicating with GPs and other healthcare providers locally to ensure children from 6 months to 5 years have access to the H1N1 vaccine. We hope that this will lead to swift local agreement.

“Providing priority groups with swine flu vaccination remains a priority for all PCTs as we continue through the winter months.

“While cases of swine flu continue to decrease, the challenge to the health service in the coming months should not be underestimated. PCTs have been making preparations to ensure all appropriate plans are in place to deal with another any increases.”
