Political engagement

The NHS Confederation works closely with the Government, Parliament and national stakeholders.

Big BenWe provide an independent and robust critique of policy and act as an important conduit between policy makers and NHS leaders – helping to test proposals and assess their impact on front line services.

We aim to inform parliamentarians, our members and stakeholder organisations about our work and to signpost information that is of most relevance to them.

Health and Social Care Act

The Government published its Health and Social Care Bill in January 2011, the key piece of legislation in its plans to reform the NHS. The Bill was passed on 20 March 2012 and granted royal assent on 27 March.

Read about this legislation and our work to influence it on its journey through Parliament.

What we do

Parliament
The NHS Confederation regularly meets with Government, MPs (including members of the Health Select Committee and other parlaimentary committees) and key policy and decision makers to feed in the views of our members and influence policy in the interests of patients, the public and NHS staff.

Stakeholders
As part of our work to influence policy and the policy debate, the NHS Confederation works closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including professional bodies, patient organisations, manufacturers of medicines and devices, non-governmental organisations and think tanks.
