Based on interviews with clinicians and managers, this paper explores experiences of introducing innovation in the NHS. It argues that if the NHS is to maintain its position as one of the world's leading health systems it must constantly look at new practices and technologies to drive efficiencies and improve the quality of care for patients. The paper explores internal barriers to adoption and some potential solutions.
Have your say
We look forward to hearing from members and others with their views on the following:
- What are you doing to overcome barriers in your organisation?
- What help do you need to find and implement ideas?
- What changes should be made to the payment by results tariff to stimulate innovation
- Should we apply business case discipline to existing spending rather than just innovations?
- What key messages would you give to SHAs and central government on this issue?
