MHN at the NHS Confederation Conference

The Mental Health Network will have a strong presence at 2012's NHS Confederation Annual Conference and Exhibition, taking place in Manchester on 20-22 June.
 

As part of the conference the Mental Health Network will be running the sessions below as part of the programme. 

Wednesday 20th June

Improving the physical health of service users

15.35-16.55 Charter 2

A key objective of the mental health strategy, No Health Without Mental Health, is to improve the physical health of people with mental health problems. In this session, hear from Ken Jue from the USA on the InShape programme and from Dr Alan Cohen from West London NHS Trust.

Improving efficiency and improving care: long term conditions and medically unexplained symptoms

17.10-18.30 Charter 1

This session is being hosted as part of the ‘Rising to the financial challenge’ strand of session at conference. In this session, hear from Simon Dupont from Central North West London NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Peter Trigwell from the Yorkshire Centre for Psychological Medicine and Steve Shrubb from the Mental Health Network. The session is being chaired by David Brindle, Public Services Editor at the Guardian.

Thursday 21st June

NB: The Mental Health Network AGM immediately follows the final session of the day (17.50 – 19.00 in Charter 1).

Improving outcomes through joint working: mental health and housing

14.10-15.30 Charter 1

At this session, hear how mental health providers and housing associations are working together on this agenda, and how this has impacted on efficiency and outcomes for service users. Speakers include Jake Elliot from the National Housing Federation, Kevin Beirne from One Housing Group and Raj Shroff from Midland Heart.

Learning from the Implementing recovery organisational change project

16.30-17.50 Charter 1

The Implementing Recovery through Organisational Change (ImROC) project supports mental health providers in focusing their services around the principles of recovery. At this session, hear from Professor Geoff Shepherd from the Centre for Mental Health, Lynne King and Lee Humphreys from Mersey Care NHS Trust, plus Dr Lesley Stevens and Steve Parker from Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.
