Department of Health publishes guidance on relational security.

04/03/2010
The Department of Health has developed a suite of materials to assist people who work in secure mental health services to understand the concept of relational security.

The materials were introduced to all medium secure services in England as an output from 10 regional events that were held in February 2009.  An evaluation of the impact of these materials at service level will be complete in April 2010 informing any further rollout of this and related material across the wider secure system.

This handbook is to help people who work in these services understand what relational security really means and what they can do to ensure that it is maintained in placed of work.

Some of the main themes discussed in the book include the risks to patient care and the importance of communications. It also explores what action individual’s and team members need to take to ensure that you are getting it right.
