National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) launches consultation to identify common mental health disorders.

16/11/2010
NICE is developing a clinical practice guideline on identifying common mental health disorders and care pathways. It will be used in the NHS in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

This guideline has been developed to provide advice on common mental health disorders. The recommendations have been developed by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, service users, a carer and guideline methodologists, after careful consideration of the best available evidence.

The guideline makes a number of research recommendations specifically to address gaps in the evidence base. It is hoped that  the recommendations will  assist clinicians and service commissioners in providing and planning high-quality care for people with common mental health disorders while also emphasising the importance of the experience of care for them and their carers.

Comments are now invited from registered stakeholders and the consultation closes on the 13 December 2010 .
