Employment and Mental Health

20/11/2009
NICE and NHS Employers have published guidance for employers on promoting mental health through productive and healthy working conditions.

NICE’s guidance is for those who have a direct or indirect role in, and responsibility for, promoting mental wellbeing at work. This includes all employers and their representatives, irrespective of the size of the business or organisation and whether they are in the public, private, or voluntary sectors. It may also be of interest to professionals working in human resources or occupational health, employees, trade unions representatives and members of the public.

For more information visit the NICE website.

NHS Employers has been commissioned by the Department of Health to improve the numbers of previous mental health service users and people with severe learning difficulties in employment in the NHS.

On World Mental Health Day, they published an updated version, Mental health and employment in the NHS, which provides advice on the employment and support of previous service users and also on supporting staff who develop mental health problems whilst in service.

It has been extended to include the advice published in February 2008 on the management of mental health issues of doctors.
