Department of Health launches easy read commissioning guide for people with learning disabilities.

The Department of Health and Office for Disability Issues published a good practice guidance aimed at people who commission easy read information for people with learning disabilities on 18 November.
 
 

The guidance is mainly for public sector organisations at a local and national level, but also for other organisations that produce public information specifically for people with learning disabilities. The purpose of the document is to provide a set of basic guidelines for people commissioning information in easy read, aimed at people with learning disabilities

 

‘Valuing People Now’ is a three year, cross government strategy which sets out sets out a commitment to ensure that all government departments produce information that is accessible to people with learning disabilities. 

 

The delivery plan is also committed to the publication of a ‘set of standards’ to help those commissioning or producing accessible information. This guidance fulfils that commitment.
