2 November 2009
BMA House, London
Second of two meetings to ensure that the ASN non-executive directors are more effectively involved with the work of the ASN and the NHS Confederation.
The Ambulance Service Network (ASN) held its second meeting for ASN non-executive directors (NEDs) where delegates had the opportunity to discuss the key strategic issues and challenges facing ambulance services and the wider NHS. Delegates also heard from senior policy makers and opinion formers.
As in the first ASN NED event held in May, three key themes were debated at the workshop:
- Where are ambulance services now?
- Where do ambulance services want to get to?
- How do ambulance services get there?
The key issues which formed the background to the debate included Foundation Trust status for ambulance services and the savings needed to be made in the NHS.
Amongst the priorities identified by delegates for ambulance services included greater partnership working with health and social care, and the opportunities to lead, develop and participate in new models of urgent care, focusing on prevention and early intervention. The ASN will work with its members to take these and other major issues forward for ambulance services.
