Our work

Ambulance services have changed significantly in the past
decade, with big improvements in response times for 999 calls, in training and quality of care, vehicle standards, equipment and technology.

Our work priorities

Clock

We provide a strong, independent voice for UK ambulance services, and support services in working more closely with the wider NHS and other key stakeholders in health and social care.

 Our work includes:

  • Influencing policy and practice on behalf of our members to transform emergency and urgent care.
  • Supporting ambulance services to develop and deliver integrated and seamless services across health and social care through partnership working.
  • Raising the profile of ambulance services through our work with commissioners, policy makers and key stakeholders.
  • Championing the role ambulance services play in improving patient care.
  • Sharing best practice through briefings, seminars and events.

The work that the Ambulance Service Network (ASN) does on behalf of its members feeds into the wider NHS Confederation work programme. This in turn supports solutions that benefit the whole system for patients and the public.

Our work programme

The ASN work programme 2008 - 2010 will take forward and develop the
ASN’s vision for emergency and urgent care as set out in our publication
'A vision for emergency and urgent care the role of ambulance services'.

The ASN will carry out work to influence policy on the following emergency and urgent care issues:

Emergency care:

  • International best practice on emergency care
  • Transferring patients between hospitals
  • Trauma.

Urgent care:

  • A single point of access for urgent care services
  • Engaging with commissioners
  • Improving care for older people
  • Improving care for people with mental health problems
  • Public health.
