The Ambulance Service Network (ASN) board
The ASN has an independent board elected by our members, comprised of five chief executives, five chairs of ambulance services and the network director.
The board helps to drive our work programme.
Board members also ensure that the network and the NHS Confederation continues to lobby and work on behalf of its ASN members on the issues that are important to them.
Read further details in the Ambulance Service Network Constitution.

Board members
The ASN board is chaired by Heather Strawbridge, chair of South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
Heather Strawbridge is the current chair of Connexions Somerset Ltd providing advice, guidance and support for 13 to 19 year olds. She is also a member of Somerset Strategic Partnership and has been a governor at Bridgwater College of Further Education since 1999. Previously she was director for the National Association of Connexions Partnerships and councillor for Somerset County Council where she held positions including chair of finance and development, chair of the public protection committee and deputy leader of the Council.
The ASN board is vice-chaired by Paul Sutton, Chief Executive of South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Paul Sutton joined the Ambulance Service in 1991 after an initial career in teaching. He worked with Staffordshire Ambulance Service until 2000 as paramedic and Director of Operations and then moved to East Anglian Ambulance Service, as Director of Operations. In January 2005, Paul formally took up the post of Chief Executive at Sussex Ambulance Service, and is currently Chief Executive of South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb), following the merger of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex ambulance services.
Paul has adopted a very innovative approach to improving ambulance services in England with a desire to emulate and exceed international best practice. This has involved re-engineering the systems and processes as well as the technology, the success of which has been highly dependent on strong clinical leadership as well as an aggressive focus on what the patient needs from the service and the tools staff require to meet this need.
