About us

The NHS Confederation is the membership body that brings together the full range of organisations that commission and provide NHS services.

What we do

We bring together the views of each and every part of the healthcare system to provide a strong voice for the whole of the NHS in a way that no other organisation can.

We work with our members and health and social care partners to help the NHS guarantee high standards of care for patients and the public. We do this by:

  • influencing health policy by representing our members' views to government, parliament, policymakers and the public
  • making sense of the whole health system with our publications and information services
  • championing good practice at events, in workshops and forums, and through partnerships
  • supporting the health industry with the help of the NHS Employers organisation and the NHS European Office.

Who we represent

We represent organisations that commission and provide NHS services. Our members include:

  • acute trusts
  • ambulance trusts
  • clinical commissioning groups (through NHS Clinical Commissioners)
  • community health service providers
  • foundation trusts
  • mental health providers
  • independent and voluntary sector healthcare organisations that deliver services within the NHS.

We have a number of networks and forums to bring together the views and perspectives of different parts of the healthcare system and support our members on areas of specific concern.

  • BME Leadership Forum
  • Community Health Services Forum
  • Hospitals Forum
  • Mental Health Network
  • NHS Partners Network
  • Urgent and Emergency Care Forum

We also work in partnership with a wide range of organisations that represent health professionals, patients, their families and carers, supply chain organisations, local government and partners from across the wider health and social care industry.

We have offices in England, Wales (Welsh NHS Confederation) and Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland Confederation for Health and Social Care) and provide a subscription service for NHS organisations in Scotland.
